Words at WarWords at War was a half-hour anthology show that aired from 1943 til 1945 dramatizing writings about World War II. It was produced in conjunction with the Council on Books in Wartime, a non-profit organization of publishers, booksellers, librarians, etc., that existed from 1942 to 1946 to spread information about issues in the conflict and to promote the Allied war effort. Episodes ranged the gamut from factual to polemic to speculative to futuristic. Among the episodes were dramatizations of A Bell for Adano by John Hersey; Lend-Lease--A Weapon for Victory, an explanation of the Lend-Lease Program; and The Silence of the Sea, a now almost forgotten work of the French Resistance.
