This I Believe

This I Believe is a project by famed CBS news reporter Edward R. Murrow. After World War II and during the early years of the Cold War, he found himself questioning some of his own beliefs, so he embarked on this project, in which he asked persons from all walks of life, some famous, some not, to spend a few minutes talking about one or more of their key beliefs. Each episode is approximately five minutes long.

As you look at the list of episodes, you will likely recognize many of the names, but Murrow did not focus only on the famous. In particular, he made an effort to include persons who normally might not have received such a platform, such as the Pakistani soldier and politician Muhammad Kahn, black school teacher and local activist Osceola Dawson, and anthropologist Ina Corrine Brown.

Though seven decades old, given the current state of our discourse, these little audio essays are as timely today as they were when first broadcast.

You can read and listen to Murrow's own introduction to the series at thisibelieve.org.
