Sears Radio TheaterThe Sears Radio Theater was an hour-long drama anthology series broadcast in 1979. Like CBS Radio Mystery Theater, but not nearly so successful, it was part of CBS's ambitious attempt to revitalize radio drama. After airing on CBS for a year, the show moved to the Mutual Broadcasting system, then in its waning years, where it aired in repeats for two more years. On both networks, it was sponsored by Sears, then a dominant force in American retail. The show aired five nights a week, with each day representing a different type of story: Monday, westerns, hosted by Lorne Green; Tuesday, comedies, hosted by Andy Griffith; Wednesday, mysteries, hosted by Vincent Price; Thursday, drama, hosted by Cecily Tyson; Fridays, adventure, hosted by Richard Widmark, then by Howard Duff, and finally by Leonard Nimoy. An impressive array of stars, such as Hans Conried, Marion Ross, Rick Jason, appeared on the show. For more information, see Wikipedia. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
