Port of Call

Port of Call was a 30-minute series of travelogues that aired new episodes from 1935-1937; it originated as a regional broadcast in California. Each episode featured a "journey" to a different country. Interspersed with descriptions of the show's country of each show are dramatizations of moments from the nation's lore and history. Lavishly produced and accompanied by a full orchestra, each show is accompanied by music appropriate to that week's port of call.

Keep in mind as you listen to these episodes that the political geography of the world has changed significantly since the 1930s. Empires have fallen, governments have been overthrown and replaced, colonies became independent countries, territories have split and merged, World War II and the Cold War have come and gone. The world it describes is no longer with us.

Of the original 52 shows, 41 are thought to have survived.
