Mystery PlayhouseMystery Playhouse is a production of the Armed Forces Radio Services which repackaged popular episodes of mystery and suspense shows for broadcast to troops abroad during and just after World War II. Because of the AFRS's selection process, Mystery Playhouse includes some of the best episodes of popular shows of the day. In the repackaging process, the original introduction, narration, and advertising were removed and replaced. Peter lorre served as the announcer and narrator for many of the shows, but, towards the end of the show's run, other announcers took his place. Many of the shows selected for rebroadcast by the AFRS and represented in this collection in their original formats, such as The Whistler, Inner Sanctum, and Mr. and Mrs. North. The MOLLE Mystery Theater appears to have been a particular favorite of the AFRS. For more information, see the Old Time Radio Catalog. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
