Lux Radio Theatre

The Lux Radio Theatre was a long-running hour-long anthology show broadcast from 1934 til 1955. It dramatized plays and, predominately, movies, often performed by the actors who appeared in the original productions, such as William Powell, Myrna Loy, William Bendix, and Clark Gable. The shows featured excellent scripting, performances, and production values, though I must say that, in the ones I've listened to, the introductions are a bit over-wrought in a "look how great we Hollywood types are" way. That, however, in no way detracts from the performances themselves.

Over its long run, the show appeared on several networks, but spent most of its time (1935-54) on CBS. An attempt to replicate the show on television as the Lux Video Theatre achieved moderate success in the early 1950s. The show also spawned an Australian spin-off.
