Jeff Regan, InvestigatorJeff Regan, Investigator calls himself "the Lyons eye," because he works for the International Detective Bureau, run by Anthony J. Lyons. Regan has little respect for Lyons and sometimes treats him with open contempt. Episodes of this half-hour detective show commonly open with Regan complaining of overwork as Lyons orders, wheedles, and begs for him to take on a new assigment. Regan, of course, takes the case or there would be no show. In the initial 1948 run of the series, Regan was played by Jack Webb of Dragnet fame and Lyons by Wilms Herbert. Regan is a hardboiled tec of few words (like most of Jack Webb's characters), but with an ironic sense of humor. The show was resurrected in the fall of 1949 and ran for about a year. In the second iteration, Regan was voiced by Frank Graham, then by Paul Dubrov; Lyons, by the venerable charactor actor, Frank Nelson. For more information, see Thrilling Detective.
