I Deal in CrimeI Deal in Crime presents the adventures of private detective Ross Dolan, a World War II vet who has returned to his previous vocation after mustering our of the army. Unlike many of the shows in this genre, the adventures are not all murder mysteries. The range of characters, from tough guys to eccentric schemers to hardboiled women to damsels in distress is fairly typical of the era. What's not typical is the writing; I found the plots to be a bit twistier, with more unexpected turns, than with most shows of this type. William Gargan, who later started in Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator, portrays Dolan. Notable actors who appear on the show include Hans Conried, who I remember best as Danny Thomas's irascible Uncle Tonoose in Make Room for Daddy; Lurene Tuttle; and Mitzi Gould. The show ran on ABC during the 1946-47 season, then moved to the Mutual Broadcasting System, where it was renamed Ross Dolan, for its second and final season.
