Guest StarGuest Star is a fifteen-minute variety show produced by the United States Treasury Department in the 1940s and early 1950s to promote the sale of U. S. Savings Bonds, which were initially created to help fund America's war effort during the Second World War. The generally light and humorous episodes feature major celebrities of the day. Most of shows focused on one guest, but some shows featured duos and even the occasional band. Indeed, in one episode, the guest was a quiz show. Guests were as diverse as Henry Morgan, Joni James, Lena Horne, and Perry Como. The show had a number of hosts over the years; music was provided by "The Savings Bond Orchestra and Singers."
