The Eddie Bracken Story

The Eddie Bracken Story is a half-hour situation comedy about the misadventures of the eponymous title character, who was voiced by Eddie Bracken. Eddie struggles for the affections of Connie, voiced by Ann Rutherford, against his rival, Otto. Unfortunately, whenever Eddie tries to do a good deed to seal Connie's affections, he finds a way to make the situation worse. For some fool reason (as my mother would have said), Connie always seems to end up forgiving Eddie. As a footnote, in the episodes I listened to, Otto always seemed to lurk just off stage.

The show aired on NBC in the 1945-46 season and moved to CBS for its next and last season. A number of notable performers appeared in it, including William Demarest (referred to as "Bill Demarest" in the credits, the only time I've heard him so called) as Connie's irascible father; Irene Ryan, best remembered as "Granny" in The Beverly Hillbillies TV show; and Cathy Lewis.
