Destination Freedom

Destination Freedom aired on WMAQ, a station with a predominately black audience, in Chicago in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Produced by Richard Durham, the half-hour show dramatized significant lives and events in the history of black Americans, stories largely overlooked or, at best, mentioned only in passing, in radio and other media, as well as in white Americans' narrative of United States history. Some argue that the show helped prepare and inspire black Americans for the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

The show featured an ensemble cast and was notable for giving opportunities to black voice actors. Among the subjects of the show were Harriet Tubman, Daniel Hale Williams, and Jackie Robinson.
