Danger Dr. DanfieldDanger Dr. Danfield is a half-hour detective story with a twist. The detective, Dr. Daniel Danfield, is a criminal psychologist (that is, a psychologist who studies criminals, not a psychologist who is a criminal). Aided by his secretary, Rusty Fairfax, Danfield finds himself drawn into various types of crimes, not just murder mysteries. Episodes typically start with Danfield's dictating report on the latest adventure, leading to the action, and then end with a wrap-up as Danfield clears up any remaining questions his secretary has. Despite Danfield's character's profession, I found this fairly typical of the tough-guy detective shows of the era, though not as "tough" as some of them; psychology does not play a large role in the episodes that I've listened to. I found the show rather run-of-the-mill, but, if you enjoy the genre, Danger Dr. Danfield is a worth a listen. Dr. Danfield was voiced by Steve Dunne; Rusty Fairfax by JoAnne Johnson; and Captain Otis, a police officer who appeared in many episodes, by Herb Butterfield. The show ran new in the 1946-47 season and continued in syndication for several years afterwards. For more information, see Wikipedia. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
