The Dam BustersThe Dam Busters is a 26-episode Australian dramatization of Paul Brickhill's book of the same name, which tells the story of the RAF's World War II "Operation Chastise." Many of the performers in the radio show had themselves served in Royal Australian Air Force during the war, giving their performances an extra twist. The show aired in 1954. Operation Chastise was an attack on German dams whose destruction was considered crucial to crippling Germany's industrial capacity. A "bouncing bomb," designed to skip across the surface of the water and strike the dams, was created especially for this attack. 1n 1955, a movie based on the book was released to considerable success.
