The Cisco Kid

Much like Hopalong Cassidy, the Cisco Kid changed over time. In the original 1907 O. Henry short story, "The Cabellero's Way," Cisco was not a nice person--he was violent, greedy, and sadistic. Once the character attracted Hollywood's attention, though, Cisco was recast as a good guy and continued to be one of the good guys in movies, comic books, radio, and television shows from the 1920s til the 1950s.

The radio show started on Mutual in 1942 and continued for over 600 episodes on various networks and in syndication. By this time, Cisco had become the "Robin Hood of the Old West." Jackson Beck voiced Cisco and Louis Sorin played his sidekick, Pancho; they were later replaced with Jack Mather and Harry Lang, respectively; after Lang's untimely death, Mel Blanc took the role of Pancho. The episodes in this collection come from the later syndicated show.
