Chicken ManChicken Man spoofs the superhero genre. Shoe salesman Benton Harbor becomes Chicken Man, crime fighter, but only on weekends when he doesn't have to show up for work. In short episodes of less than three minutes, Chicken Man bungles his way through a series of misadventures, in the process lampooning the conventions of the superhero genre, such as secret identities and superpowers. The show was created by Dick Orkin of Chicago radio station WCFL, who also voiced all the male characters, and inspired in part by the success of the campy Batman television series, which had premiered the year before. Jane Roberts, a local actress and the station's traffic reporter, voiced the female parts. Chicken Man aired from 1966 to 1969, The shorts were eventually syndicated to over 1500 radio stations and to the Armed Forces Radio Service. For more information, see Wikipedia.
