Calling All Cars

Calling All Cars is an early police procedural from the 1930s. Each half-hour episode follows the police through the investigation of a crime from commission to arrest. Scripts are based on actual cases handled by the Los Angeles Police Department. Indeed, the LAPD Chief of Police, James E. Davis hosted the program.

Many consider this show to be a direct ancestor of Jack Webb's classic Dragnet, which through several iterations (one on radio and two on television, plus some movies) is in the eyes of many the police procedural against which all others must be measured. Beyond that, nothing particularly makes this show stand out from the dozens of other OTR crime and detective shows, but it can be a fun listen.
