Broadway Is My Beat

Danny Clover is a detective assigned to Midtown Manhattan, which includes the theater district. That's why he opens each episode by stating that Broadway Is My Beat. Clover is a hard-boiled, but not a hard-hearted, cop who must deal with the seamy underworld of New York City, but it is also clear that he loves his city, for its flaws and shortcomings. Clover tells his stories in the first person in a spare, matter-of-fact style.

The show premiered on CBS from New York in February 1949, moved to Hollywood in July of that year, and ran until August 1954. In New York, Clover was voiced by veteran Broadway actor Anthony Ross, but, after the move west, Larry Thor took on the lead role for the rest of the show's run. He was joined on show by some of the most notable actors of the time, such as Sheldon Leonard, Harry Bartell, and Mary Jane Croft.
