Blackstone, the Magic DetectiveBlackstone, the Magic Detective is a 15 minute series of adventures based on the comic book series, Blackstone, Master Magician, which in turn was based on the real-life magician, Harry Blackstone, Sr. Episodes typically open with a reference to a mystery that Blackstone solved, and the solving of the mystery is told through flashbacks. As with a magic act, most of the stories involve sleight of hand or a misdirection play of some sort. At the end, Blackstone performs a trick, then explains the trick. The show aired on the Mutual Broadcasting System in the 1948-49 season. Ed Jerome voiced Blackstone and Fran Carlon, his assistant, Rhoda. Most of the episodes were written by the team of Walter Gibson and Nancy Webb. Gibson, also a professional magician, was a prolific writer, best remembered for creating the pulp fiction character, The Shadow, which later was immortalized in the long-running radio show of the same name.
