Big TownSteve Wilson, the crusading editor of the Illustrated Press, fights to expose crime and corruption in the city of Big Town, assisted by his society editor, Lorelei Kilbourne. The stories are fairly typical crime drama fodder, but the acting and writing lift this show above the flock. Notable is that for the first few years, the lead roles were played by two of the biggest stars of the era: Wilson by Edward G. Robinson, who is best remembered for portraying gangsters and toughs; Kilbourne by Claire Trevor, whose career spanned seven decades on stage, screen, and television. The radio series ran from 1937 to 1952, staying in the top 10 for most of its run and spawning several movies and a comic book series (today, it would likely be referred to as a "franchise"). In 1950, it started to run on television, where it ran on various networks until 1956. For more information, see Wikipedia. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
