Authors' PlayhouseAuthors' Playhouse was a half-hour anthology series that dramatized stories and plays, primarily those of popular authors of the late 1930s and early 1940s. It featured adaptations of the works of James Thurber, Stephen Vincent Benet, and William Saroyan, among many others. The show originated on the Mutual Broadcasting System in the 1940-1941 season, then moved to NBC, where it stayed until it ended in 1945. As in repertory theater, a cast of regulars anchored the performances. Sadly, few shows remain of the program's earliest years. For more information, see Wikipedia.
