American AdventureAmerican Adventure was a half-hour documentary that dramatized topics from American history and tradition. Presented by NBC in cooperation with the University of North Carolina, it covered a wide range of topics, ranging from the slave trade ("A King with a Crown") to Johnny Appleseed. Some of the stories were based on historical events; some were fictional, but designed to illustrate historical themes and trends. The show billed itself as "a study of man in the New World." The show aired in 1955 and 1956; it was one of several similarly themed shows, such as American Trail that focused on American history, often with heavy overtones of American exceptionalism, in the early years of the Cold War.
