The Air Adventures of Jimmy AllenThe Air Adventures of Jimmy Allen originated from conversation at a party between two writers, freelancer Bill Burtt and sportswriter Bill Moore, both of whom had been World War I flying aces. The fifteen-minute serial tells the adventures of 16-year-old Jimmy Allen and his pilot friend Speed Robertson, as they thwart hijackings, tangle with criminals, and help the helpless. Eventually, Jimmy becomes a pilot also. The show was targeted towards children and teenagers and Jimmy embodies all the virtues of the stereotypical All-American Boy of the 1930s and 1940s. The show started in Kansas City, Missouri, and slowly spread to other Midwestern cities, until it eventually was made available nationally through syndication. There were two separate series: one ran from 1933 through 1937; the second, with some revisions and updated terminology, was produced in 1946 and 1947. Repeats of the latter series ran in syndication until the early 1950s. For more information, see Wikipedia. Series description provided by Frank Bell. |
