Abroad with the Lockharts

Abroad with the Lockharts was a 15-minute syndicated serial that follow Gene and Kathleen Lockhart on a tour of Europe. The two portray a couple who choose--well, the wife chooses--to celebrate their tenth anniversary with a vacation abroad. Humor and misadventures ensue.

The show's sixteen episodes aired in 1930 and, as the show was syndicated, broadcast times and dates varied from station to station.

Some critics have suggested that the relationship between the Lockharts as portrayed in the radio show provide insight into the ideal middle-class family of the early post-Depression era. In a sidenote, Gene and Kathleen Lockhart were the parents of June Lockhart, who was herself a successful actress, most notably as Timmy's mother in Lassie and as Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space.
