For Halloween I'd like to recommend one show I listen to each year:
Great Gildersleeve 10-31-1951 Gildy Finds A Lost Boy...not a scary show but humane and even compassionate.

The social background to WWII is often referenced in these shows which aired through the war years.
I feel the real heart of the time is reflected in the script writing as well. Corny, yes, but brings a bit more of what the nation was like back then. Just a thought. We could use a lot more of it these days.
