| Did you know that Wild Bill Elliott, who played Red Ryder in the movies, also had a radio show in the Fifties. It was a syndicated program where there were spots in the recording (usually indicated by organ music) where local advertisers could sponsor. It was a 15 minute serial about a vanishing stagecoach. Elliott appeared with a young boy named Buddy and Elliott rode his horse "Stormy." Monogram Pictures western heroine Reno Browne, who co-starred with Johnny Mack Brown and Jimmy Wakely, also had her own radio show called "Reno Rides The Range." It was a 15 minute serial that she would usually send ahead to the radio station in the cities where she would be making personal appearances. The TV cast of Rin-tin-tin also had a radio show in the Fifties to attract those young listeners who may not have a television set. And believe, there were a lot of them. |
