Oh, pooh - I was going to suggest a couple of great episodes for this show, but can't think of the titles.
Argh.
This show too often gets lumped in with mystery serieses, but it's really not quite one. Some episodes have mystery elements, but the best ones are very people-oriented instead.
My favorites (and I promise to find the titles, if anyone is interested) are:
--Stone spends the night in a bar with an acquaintance whose wife just went into labor. The man goes thorugh the most dramatic mood swings and panic moments, and the whole thing is brilliant.
--Stone writes an article condemning people who would, in a panic, trample others to survive - and one of the paper's proofreaders calls him on it, talling him he'd do the same if he was scared enough. And then he starts getting threatening letters....

I'm a big fan of this show and have listened to the series numerous times since first hearing it on BBC radio 5 in the 1990's.
However, I recently read that there was an Australian version of the show that ran for 10 years and several hundred episodes. How does the Australian version compare? Do the missing Frank Loveloy episodes exist in Australian versions?
I also recently read that there was a tv episode as part of "4 Star Playhouse" called "Search in the night" in 1953. Has anyone seen this and is it worth tracking down? |
