Box Thirteen. June 26, 1949. Program #45. "Speed To Burn".
A lot of people forget that Alan Ladd not only started out in radio, he returned to have his own series even after he was a movie star. Ladd has a good voice for radio and stars as Dan Holiday, writer-turned-adventurer.
Here he tries to help somebody extricate themselves from a gang running a stolen-car racket. Interesting because the writers have not only provided an intriguing opening scene but have actually put some thought into how such a racket would work. Gerald Mohr, usually heard as Philip Marlowe, is the bad guy.
(Would a 1938 jalopy with a British tank engine actually do one hundred miles per hour? I'd like to see that on Top Gear.) _________________ tuned in from down under |
