    Finally, nine years after he first became eligible, Rich 'Goose' Gossage has been elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. In an otherwise lean year, Goose was the only player elected.

    Even though I had the pleasure of watching him pitch regularly when I lived in San Diego, I still have an unanswered question; Why wasn't Gossage good enough to be elected nine years ago? After all, he received 300 more votes this year than he did in his first year of eligibility. Does this make him a better ballplayer now than he was nine years ago?

    Until Pete Rose is voted into the Hall of Fame, it will be difficult to take the Hall seriously . . .
