Drene Time. January 12, 1947. Program #5. NBC
Sponsored by Drene Shampoo, this is often referred to as "The Bickersons" for the sitcom portion of the programme.
In this one Gale Gordon guest stars a psychiatrist trying to talk Danny Thomas out of a phone booth, leading to an amusing song about psycho-analysis. In "The Bickersons" Blanche (Frances Langford) has bought a puppy and gives her husband (Don Ameche) a sleepless night. Carmen Dragon and His Orchestra provide the music.
This is quite funny stuff -- if you like Abbott & Costello you'll enjoy the scene with Don Ameche trying to persuade Danny Thomas to get psychiatric help. _________________ tuned in from down under |

Mike,
Thanks for the review of the show. We have some more of these shows in the members directory listed under "The-Bickersons" if anyone would like to listen to them.

The Bickersons HAVE to be my favorite OTR comedy show with Burns and Allen a close second. I have to admit that I am disappointed when I get a show that has Lew Parker instead of Don Ameche...to me, Don Ameche IS John Bickerson. I can listen to the shows 100 times and they still crack me up! My all time favorite is when John is in the hospital and Blanche asks the doctor...how much is the operation without an anesthetic? Or, I bought you a turkey and thought you could murder it for dinner. Even though so many of their gags are repeated over and over in different episodes it doesn't seem to matter because they are so funny.
LOVE the show...can you tell?

Welcome to the forum MADAYMADAY.
Don't forget about "Father knows best". That's funny too.

The Bikersons is one of those shows that - based on its description - just never appealed to me. I'm not sure why but I just wasn't interested.
So based on this thread, I listened to several episodes. It actually made me laugh out loud on more than a few occasions. I just wish there were more to them. But all in all, a lot of fun. |

| The Bickersons are not going to make you think about the meaning of life...but, they will make you laugh out loud! Unfortunately, your right, they are kind of limited in that many of the jokes are repeated in different episodes, but Don Ameche is such a convincing henpecked exhausted husbands and Francis Langford so lazy and such a shrew that I just love it for some reason. I have about 15 episodes and there doesn't seem to be a lot more out there. The earlier ones with lew Parker just don't do it for me. |
