Please help me find a sci-fi show that I think was on the CBS Mystery Theater. It followed the story of a man involved with some space agency that was trying to find the secrets of an alien civilizations artifact in a cave on the moon. The cave was booby trapped and you could only go so far before being zapped. (Reminds me a bit of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). To keep the body count down, they used a sort of star trek transporter to make duplicates of people to actually go into the cave, preserving the individual - but there was an underlying philosophical question - was something like a "soul" lost in that duplication. This gave our main character second thoughts about participating - but never seemed to be a issue for Gene Roddenberry and other trekkers.
I never heard the end of the tale. From time to time when listening to the old radio shows, I remember that show and wonder what happened!! |

| Sounds a bit like Arthur C. Clarke's short story "The Sentinal" which he later expanded into the novel of 2001. |

And it sounds very like the Algis Budrys novel Rogue Moon (1960)

Mike - Right on the mark. Must have been an X-1 episode. Didn't see it in the program list, but it must be out there somewhere.
The plot summary is just what I remember of the story. I just tried to find a place it could be downloaded from, but the only luck so far is from a web page "nowdownloadall.com" but they have a membership fee, discounted right now for $35.00 but I've never heard of them and don't know if it is worth the subscription price. Any comments or other source suggestions???
And to rrrhre2s - thank you very much for the CBSRMT index. |
