I downloaded a bunch of the shows last night, and am listening to them this afternoon. Just finished "The Monkey's Paw", which has always been one of my favorite stories. What a great episode. The atmosphere, the sound effects, I'm not sure I could listen to this one in the dark.

Yeah, Nightfall is quite excellent. When I was in high school, I used to turn over and listen to it on an FM public radio station as soon as CBSRMT finished on a local AM station. Ah, those were the days...

I didn't even know there were other radio programs like CBSRMT on the air back then. Course I wasn't even old enough for kindergarten when the show started (I was born in Dec. of 1970). lol. One thing I've noticed is that even this many yrs later the opening music (for CBSRMT) still sounds ominous to me. When they wrote it they wrote something to last. I'm sure not every radio program can say that. Of course they picked just the right host back then too.

I agree completely crich70. CBSRMT was the very first OTR type show I heard. My family and I drove from Iowa to Seattle the summer of my 5th birthday, in 1974. My folks grew up during the depression, so to them, hearing this was a big deal. We listened every night, all of us near a radio, either in the car, or in some hotel room. The creaking door always scared the poo outta me, but E.G.'s voice would calm me down.

You make a good point. E.G. Marshall's voice was both soothing and just slightly sinister the way he'd welcome you in to hear that night's episode. If you don't already have it you can find the series over at http://www.MysteryShows.com in the members section. It was the first thing I downloaded I think. In fact it was while looking for info. on the series that I stumbled across the MysteryShows website.

I already have. I had a few episodes, and I started searching for more, and found the Mystery Shows website just a few weeks ago, so I'm getting my fix of all things OTR!
