I'm using a new program I found on the Internet to catalog all my OTR CDs and DVDs. I tried quite a few and liked this one the best. I'm using the free version for now. Here is a link to it if you would like to try it for your own disks.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask a follow up question.
I am trying to find the easiest way to name the files downloaded from this site. I'd like to be able to rename a large group of files so that they are consistent with regard to the name of the show and episode. Would this program help with that regard? |

Get the Otter Program. Download the updated data base file too. It will match the files to the correct name. You can pick whatever name format you
want. I should have used it before I uploaded so many shows to the server.
Be careful. The program will rename all of the shows in any directory you pick. Make sure you read the manual first.

I'm going to rename some of our shows when I get time. It'll be a slow process as I have to re-upload them when I'm done. I'll be using this format:
Series Title, Date, Episode Number, Show Title

Thanks for the great link Brad. I tried it out with the disk I burned of Family Theater and though there are over 4gb of files for the OTR program Wincatalog saved a catalog of the disk in just a few seconds , even though I had split the files into folders according to the year they were produced.
It's a great little program.

After every few disks, I hit the save button. After each disk set, I close the program and go to the "My Documents" folder. The database file should be in there, with a .wcl file extension. I copy it to a different disk on my network and rename the file with the date of backup.
Better safe than sorry. I'd hate to do a hundred disks and have the database file get corrupted.

I really messed up some files when I first tried this program. It only has one level of "undo". If you click on another folder, close the program or rename a second time you can't undo anymore.
It might be best to copy a whole folder of shows to a test directory and play around with the program for a while until you get used to how it works. The undo feature is listed under the menu heading "files".
Also when you select a folder, before you hit the rename button, click on, "files", "Select Series" to make sure the program knows what series. it is. If it doesn't, you can pick it from a list. If it thinks it's a different series, all of the names will be wrong. I had that happen to me a couple times.

There is a little learning curve on this program for me.
I've got files saved on an external drive and I will go ahead and back up before I attempt anything. |

I keep things simple. One file for one DVD disk.
1. Let the computer load the disk.
2. Go to edit, load folder and find the disk in the drive.
3. Choose 'add new folder.'
4. Let the program scan the disk that I put in the drive.
5. After opening the folder that I've just scanned in to check it is correct I choose 'save as' and the file name I want to use. I choose titles like "OTR DVD # (where # is the actual # of the DVD I've just scanned).
I save the files in a folder that I named "Win Catalog OTR Files." |
